Brothers and Sisters—
As we’re wading into unprecedented waters, I appreciate all the stories of giving, living and loving that I am hearing from members of our ward. My family is also grateful to all those who have ministered to us.
I encourage each of you to accept the invitation from our prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, to participate in a worldwide fast for relief from COVID-19.
Not only does fasting bring us personal peace and closeness to the Lord, but it enables us to feel more connected to the global family of God.
As this situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, we evolve with it. I also encourage each of you to carefully consider the recommendations made by Governor Gary Herbert yesterday that included increased guidelines to minimize contact and limit transmission of disease.
To assist with the governor’s directive, here is additional insight with regard to our personal worship and how we interact with each other.
- For now, please cancel any in-person gatherings that are not essential. Our ward is temporarily postponing baptisms for 8-year-old members of record until further notice. We will continue to monitor this policy as situations change.
- We will temporarily refrain from holding funerals in our chapel. A small graveside service may be held, with minimal attendees who should all practice safe distancing.
- For the sacrament, only priesthood holders within the home are authorized to perform the ordinance for tomorrow, March 29. For now, we will not have priesthood holders visit others’ homes to administer the sacrament. Again, we will continue to monitor this policy, as well.
- Ministering should be done using technology unless it is essential that ministering friends physically visit someone to care for them. In such cases, they should use all safety precautions as outlined by the governor.
- For now, I will limit in-person interviews and counseling. Where possible, I will use technology to minister. Please feel free to reach out to Brother Nathan Michelsen to schedule an appointment and discuss the best way to meet for your situation.
Again, each of these restrictions and adjustments is meant to be temporary. We look forward to meeting together and enjoying the full blessings of weekly fellowship and church activities.
I love you all and am here for any needs you may have.
