Ward YW Presidency Changes

Posted on July 22, 2020August 9, 2020 by Brother Valentine

Hi there young women and parents,

You may or may not have heard by now that there have been some changes made to our ward Young Women presidency. How fortunate have we been to have had Sister Oldham, Sister Embley, and Sister Lish serving in young women’s for these two years?! They are amazing women. Release from this calling does not lessen their love and concern for you. That will be there always. If you see them at church or around the neighborhood, be sure to express your love and gratitude. We will be doing a little something for them and I will text you all about that soon.

In the mean time, I am so excited to share with you more about the new women called to the ward YW presidency! Those in class presidencies, be sure to help your new leaders get situated and feel welcome. The new presidency members are 1st counselor, Sister Cuthill; 2nd counselor, Sister Law; and secretary, Sister Chandler. Here are some quick bio’s on the Presidency.

Sister Valentine

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Henderson, NV.
What was your favorite subject in school? Any class that wasn’t just sitting there listening to a lecture. Yawn.
What is your favorite color? Green and pink.
What are your hobbies? Reading Fantasy, playing violin, hiking, rollerblading (thank you quarantine) and I will defeat any of you in trivia about The Office TV show or Harry Potter (the books, not the movies).
Favorite Scripture Story? Probably Esther. Just as a story alone, it’s great! But I love Esther’s example of thinking things out first with prayer and fasting and then putting things into action with bravery and faith.
What do you look forward to in this calling? Young women’s is a busy calling which means sacrifices are often made. I always find that in callings that require sacrifice, my family sees a lot of blessings. I am grateful for those blessings. I love getting to know the youth members of our ward and hearing their testimonies and feeling their energy as they serve and love each other.

Sister Cuthill

Where did you grow up? I was born in Rexburg, ID but spent most of growing up in Springville.
What was your favorite subject in school? I have always loved math, but music (orchestra, band, and color guard) was always a close second.
What is your favorite color? My husband buys me a lot of pink but I prefer red 😀
What are your hobbies? I love sewing and quilting. I love to read (but can’t because when I get a book I read the whole thing in one day which includes staying up all night so I stay away form it since I need my sleep). I also enjoy family history.
What is your favorite scripture story? In college we did an Oratorio of Alma the Youngers conversion called ‘Come Unto Christ.’ I learned a lot about this story as we studied the music and the lyrics. It was very powerful.
What do you look forward to in this calling? I am looking forward to learning from these girls and their testimonies. They give off a light that is immeasurable to anything else. All are so unique and beautiful, and it’s a wonderful thing to be a part of.

Sister Law

Where did you grow up? Bothell, Washington, a suburb of Seattle
What was your favorite subject in school? My all-time favorite class in high school was a forensics class I took senior year. I love it applied what I learned in my previously-taken science courses, combined with deductive reasoning and true crime.
What is your favorite color? Purple.
What are your hobbies? Crocheting, playing frisbee with our Border Collie, listening to true crime podcasts, watching Hamilton on repeat, and playing computer games with my brothers online.
Favorite Scripture Story? The story of Esther.
What do you look forward to in this calling? I’m so excited to get to know all of you girls and support you in your hobbies and interests like my leaders supported me growing up.

Sister Chandler

Where did you grow up? My dad was in commercial construction so I moved around growing up. I went to high school in Raleigh, NC.
What was your favorite subject in school? Orchestra.
What is your favorite color? Red.
What are your hobbies? Reading, coloring, indexing, listening to music.
What is your favorite scripture story? Nephi getting the plates.
What do you look forward to in this calling? Getting to know all the girls and hearing their stories.

If you see them at church or around the neighborhood, be sure to welcome them and introduce yourself. I’ll be praying we can all meet together in the near future. I miss you all. Be looking at your Group Me’s often for activities and updates.

Love you all!
