Ward Update, November 1

Posted on November 1, 2020November 1, 2020 by Brother Valentine

Sisters and Brothers—

We’ve made it to November!

I don’t mention this milestone because I think the “challenge is almost over” or anything, but to remind each of us that despite difficulties arising, life moves on and we can rise with the challenge.

We received a phone reminder from the state of Utah that the Covid-19 infections are far from over. In fact, truthfully, we’re experiencing more infections in our state than at any other time in this pandemic. I hope each of us took the time to recommit to keep ourselves and others safe.

We’re also days away from Election Day and, no matter how the results play out, I want to remind each of us to be respectful of each other and remember that, no matter our political affiliation, what we share as ward members is the covenant we made at baptism to take upon ourselves the name of Christ.

Also, I want to remind us that we should be civic minded more than every four years. Earlier this week, our priests quorum met with a member of our city council in the city offices. In the main foyer of the city building, we were educated on all the ways our city officials work to make behind the scenes to provide the goods and services we need. If we truly want to affect change and understanding, I believe we will be best suited doing what we can locally, in our neighborhood and in our city.

With regard to the latest phone reminder from the state, some have had questions about how that changes our worship services.

In short, it doesn’t.

We will continue to monitor local health conditions and watch for more specific information from church leaders. Please commit to do your part to keep yourself and others safe as you move through your activities.

I look forward to seeing families whose names begin with M through Z today at the church building. For those unable to attend, please administer the sacrament at your homes and watch sacrament meeting at the link below:

For second-hour Sunday School classes, please find links to classes on the digital ward newsletter or contact a member of the Sunday School presidency.

Also, as a reminder, please come meet with me for tithing settlement. We’re several weeks into tithing settlement meetings and there are still very few families I’ve been able to meet with. Please take advantage of the “early weeks” and sign up to meet with me. As the holidays come upon us, schedules will fill up. It will be nice to get tithing settlement done early. Sign ups are available on the bishop’s office door or by contacting our ward clerk, Brother Steve Jones.

Have a great week!

Bishop Bennett
