Hello to all you young women!
If you look at the list of birthdays this month, you will see my birthday. When I was younger, I hated it because people would usually forget or they would give me one present for both my birthday and Christmas. It was worse when I was in high school and college because final exams happened right around my birthday and everyone was more concerned about studying than paying any attention to me. By the end of college, I gave up hope anyone (including my brothers) would remember my birthday.
Things changed when I got married and had children. My family lets me decide what we have for dinner on my birthday and what activity we will do together. I’ve also gained many friends who do remember my birthday and want to celebrate. I’m uncomfortable in large groups, so I end up celebrating with a different small group of friends over several days. These celebrations help me feel loved because it shows me that people remember me and are willing to sacrifice some of their time to do things I want to do.
In Moroni chapters 4 & 5, we find the Sacrament prayers. The phrase “always remember him” can be found in both prayers. Where “him” refers to Christ, what does it mean to “always remember him”? I like to think it means we should keep Jesus Christ in our thoughts, especially when we make choices, and strive to be like Him by doing the things He would do.
John 14:15 says:
“If you love me, keep my commandments.”
John 21:15 says:
“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?’ He saith unto him, ‘Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee’. He saith unto him, ‘Feed my lambs.’”
Keeping the commandments and serving others are other ways we can show Jesus Christ we remember him and love him.
Remember how I feel loved when people remember my birthday and take the time to do the things I want to do? Maybe we can show Jesus Christ how much we love him by remembering Him and doing the things He would want to do during His birthday month. I challenge you this month to think about Jesus every day and ponder if you are showing Him love by the choices you make. Would He want to watch the movie you are watching or listen to the music you are listening to? Maybe He would feel more loved if you sacrificed a little of your time every day to serve someone in your family or study the scriptures. Just keep in mind every day, “Will this choice help me remember and love our Savior, Jesus Christ?”. I know that if you do, you will have His spirit with you and it will be easier to make good choices.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas season!
Love,
Sister Chandler

Hi from the High Desert

My fellow young women, serving during a pandemic is quite different and the work is changing and moving fast! But our message as missionaries are still the same, that Jesus is the Christ and that He died for the world so that we can return back to Him once again. If you ladies know me (Or remember me hahah) it’s that I KNOW that the Savior loves us and He suffered for us because He wants to know how to help you and Understand you. During this Holiday season we are lighting the world one by one (We also got some COOL pass along cards!! :D) and I would love to invite all of you to participate, individually or with your families in lighting the world one by one and being like Jesus for Jesus went about doing good. I promise you, that you will feel the pure love of Christ when you go out and serve because we are all missionaries! We don’t need to wear the tag!!! I hope you wonderful young women have a wonderful Christmas and even though I’m not there remember that I always love youuuuuu!!!! Stay Frosty!
Sincerely yours,
Hermana Guzman

This year the ward Sunday School presidency has not been thwarted by the pandemic and put together another great Christmas party. I wanted to make sure you had details of what to do before and during the party.
The activity is two parts: a service project and a parade. In the adults’ GroupMe chats, links have been posted where families can get details and sign up to make tie blankets or buy contents for and assemble hygiene or school kits for an organization called Lifting Hands International. If your family missed the post, here is the link with more details:

The ward Christmas parade will be December 15th starting at 7pm. It will be similar to the summer social and ward halloween party. Members of the ward council, the Sunday School presidency, the bishopric, and Santa himself will be parading through the ward boundaries. Youth that are out to greet us may even get a small treat. The ward council members will be delivering a small family gift to every house and gathering the completed blankets and kits for the ward service project. If you have younger siblings, you can help them deliver their letters to Santa in Santa’s mailbox. It will be a great time to see some ward members outside in person (from a distance) and feel the joy of celebrating together as a ward at Christmas time.
